The Kevin James Endowment
The Kevin James Endowment Fund was set up in November 2007 by the Dallas Police Association Assist the Officer Foundations board of directors to honor the memory of Dallas Police Officer Christopher Kevin James who was murdered on November 25, 2001. Kevin is the only sitting Dallas Police Association (www.dallaspa.org) board member to be killed in the line of duty.
When God set out to make the perfect police officer he succeeded in Christopher Kevin James or “KJ” to his colleagues. A consummate professional while patrolling the streets of Dallas, KJ would go out of his way to help a person, especially a child. From the day he hit the streets in 1995, he began amassing friends on the department that would congregate around him just to feed off the energy and excitement for the job that he projected.
Kevin was a family man and enjoyed demonstrating his love for family and friends. He had this ability to bring joy and fun into every situation. Be it trimming trees, making apricot jam, skinning a rabbit or other tasks he did, at our family farm, he brought life to that chore and created moments that my family and I will never forget. I honestly believe he made our family’s bond even stronger. His energy and positive attitude were contagious and there was more excitement at every gathering when he was present.
Lest We Forget
Christopher Kevin James, “KJ”, was hired by the Dallas Police Department in March of 1995. He completed basic training and was assigned to the Northwest Operations Division where he worked his entire career. Almost immediately, KJ began receiving praise from citizens and officers alike. He received over 50 commendations with almost half of those coming from the same citizens he was sworn to protect. Obviously he was good at his job.
